On 15th March, Exo Environmental were commissioned by MDL Marinas to conduct a bathymetric survey of the approach channel to Chatham Maritime Marina, situated on the River Medway in Kent, to support their current maintenance dredging program.
Chatham offers first-class berthing and marina services in the heart of waterfront development. This includes the provision of 412 berths, boat storage facilities and a 16.5 ton crane and purpose-build lifting dock supporting their extensive shore side services.
The marina is accessed from the river via lock access, with the approach channel requiring surveying defined as an area of approximately 50x500m and encompassing a queue pontoon and intertidal area lying adjacent to the old dock walls.
Employing our dual-frequency Echotrac CV100 echosounder, we were able to successfully and accurately determine depths across the approach channel and provide near real-time data to the dredging contractors on site, thereby facilitating efficient, responsive and targeted dredging operations in order to achieve safe navigational depths for Chatham Maritime Marina.
