- In General, Water Management
- By William Coulet
As usual, here at Exo we tend to do things out of the ordinary. Perhaps we are slightly crazy, otherwise how else can you explain that we went for a swim in a fast-flowing river in the middle of December! As they say, a calm sea does not make a skilled sailor. We took this to heart and plunged into the icy water to learn how to survive and help others.
As you can imagine, this exercise was great fun but also slightly eye opening. Even though we are used to water and we work in aquatic environments all the time, seeing how dangerous water can be in unexpected ways is important, even if it just reinforces what we already knew. From now on though, if you go for a paddle or a swim next to a weir or in the local river next summer, you would be happy to see us surveying nearby, as you can be certain that there are trained professionals on hand, should anyone need help.
And now, to the more normal December activities, wishing you a prosperous and healthy new year.
p.s., did you know that alcohol is responsible for 18% of drownings? Keep the festive season festive and stay safe. Swimming in December is hardly a good idea, let alone when drunk :p
