Sediment Management

During COP26 climate issues and challenges have been brought to the forefront for those people that are not involved with Climate Change as part of their day-to-day work. Exo have been working on practical climate change adaptation solutions and good practices for years, involving Nature Based Solutions, the Circular Economy and Water Management. This work has involved the development of GeoBlock technology, utilising valorised waste sediment for production of coastal protection units. A form of recycling and re use that is helping to create a circular economy and reduce costs and energy use involved in traditional disposal methods.

Building on this previous work we have recently signed the SedNet Pledge, which was launched during COP26. The pledge allows us to demonstrate our commitment to assessing sustainable long-term solutions for sediment management across our various projects. It recognises the importance of water managers in protecting sediment resources and the ecosystem services these crucial habitats support.

More than twenty global organisations have signed the pledge, from private business, local authority and academic institutions and many more! This commitment demonstrates there is appetite and a recognition for changes in practices to identify solutions which benefit nature and society.
